Pain in children
This online resource is based around the Royal College of Nursing's (RCN) clinical guideline on the recognition and assessment of acute pain in children. Originally published in 2000, and now completely revised and updated in 2009, the guideline identifies reliable and valid tools for measuring pain intensity that are appropriate for neonates, preverbal infants and verbal children, and makes a series of key recommendations regarding timing and triggers for formal pain assessment. As well as the report itself, this resource provides high quality, tailored material to inspire and support implementation of the findings and recommendations in the guideline. The guideline has been formally endorsed by: the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists; the British Pain Society and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
